The mighty alley wall stands at 200′ x 15′ and is the largest wall of the Kids Unlimited Academy project. Positioned across from the playground, and basketball court, it represents the positive energy and spirit of Kids Unlimited. The design, constructed of large flowing architectural forms, is divided equally into positive and negative space shapes, which are colored in contrast with warm and cool colors to create a maximum impact of spectral color pop and spatial unity. The background of blue blocks echoes the theme from the front of the building, while in the foreground we see flowing green pink and orange striped forms suggestive of plants and flowers. It was important for this part of the project to feel exciting and full of joy, while also feeling universal and timeless, as it will be representing Kids Unlimited for years to come.

When considering what direction to take with this large scale mural, I reflected on how people of the community in Medford Oregon don’t have access to magnificent works of modern architecture, or art museums or public sculpture. People in major cities are lucky to have these things contributing to their daily lives and I wanted to bring that cultural energy to this project in an uplifting way.
