In summer of 2022, I worked with Beta Projects to do a total transformation of this quirky post modem student housing high rise on the University of Illinois campus.
We updated the drab beige balconies and trim with teals and blues which contrast and balance the warm terracotta hues of the brick. Through on-site color and product testing, we developed with Sherwin Williams, a strong dark trim color we dubbed “oil rubbed patina” inspired and informed by other buildings on campus which feature brick architecture with patina rooftops.
This is case study in how existing or dated architecture can be updated with art & design.
